Frequently Asked Questions
Plugin Formats:
1) What formats are supported?
All the major linux audio formats are supported, at the moment these are standalone JACK client applications that connect to and process audio via the JACK audio server, LV2 - The emerging successor to LADSPA, and native linux VST - plugins designed to run natively in linux host applications that support the VST standard.
2) What Host applications are compatible?
Here are a few of the compatible host applications, more are appearing all the time:
LV2 Plugins - Ardour 2.8.3 or later, Qtractor, LV2Rack
native VST - energyXT, Renoise, JOST, Qtractor
JACK - Just about any application that can also connect to JACK, of which there are many
3) Do I need a host application?
No. If you use the JACK plugins, they are standalone applications. You connect other audio applications to them via the JACK audio sound server.
4) WIll the LV2 plugin GUIs work correctly in different host applications?
Yes. Unlike many LV2 plugins which are designed only to use either a GTK or Qt host, our plugins are designed to work with any GUI toolkit on any host that supports the LV2 external_UI extension.
Linux Distributions:
1) Which linux distributions are suitable?
Although we try to make the software compatible with most linux distributions, by keeping the number of dependencies to a minimum, the varied nature of linux distributions and rapid release cycles makes it impossible to guarantee the software will be compatible with all the latest changes and updates.
At the present time, the software is tested on Ubuntu LTS releases and we generally develop the software to the LTS release schedule. The software is provided with free demo functionality so that you can test compatibility before purchasing.
Online Payments:
1) I don't have a paypal account, can I still purchase the product?
You do not need a PayPal account to pay using PayPal. Choose to "Checkout with PayPal" from the shopping cart and then the section titled "Don't have a PayPal account? Use your credit card or bank account (where available)."
Evaluation:
1) What are the evaluation version limitations?
In evaluation or demo mode the effect will bypass and the level will drop momentarilly every 60 Seconds. To remove this restriction you will need to purchase an activation key.
Licensing:
1) Is there any copy protection?
No. You can make as many copies of the software as you like for your own use, but you are not permitted to distribute them.
2) Can I distribute the software?
You need to contact us first and obtain a distributors license. Typically, if you wish to include the software as part of a non-commecial product for which you make no charge, we will allow inclusion of the free plugins and the demo versions at no cost, but we would normally require that you provide a link to our site or publish our site URL in promotional literature. If you want to include the software as part of a commercial product then we would normally negotiate a per-unit fee.
3) How many machines can I install the software on?
For personal use, whether commercial or non-commercial, you can install it on any computers that you own, the activation key is not tied to one machine. If you are representing a commercial organisation and would like a site-wide license, please contact us to agree terms.
4) Can I share my activation key?
No. Publication or distribution of any keys will be viewed as an attempt to distribute the software which is expressly forbidden under the terms of the license.
Open Source Projects:
1) Are your plugins / applications open source?
At the present time, the significant financial costs of developing, maintaining and distributing the software mean that we are not in a position to make the software itself available as open source, however, we recognise that although our software contains no GPL'd code, we do indirectly depend on other projects that are open source, (e.g. certain host applications and not least the linux operating system itself) and as such we support, and contribute to these projects wherever possible and, revenue permitting, we hope to be able to expand our financial support for such projects.
2) Why develop commercial software for linux?
As enthusiastic users of linux we began developing our software because we needed some audio processing applications and plugins that offered some of the features that had become standard on other operating systems and we also believe that the configurable nature of linux in general offers a superior platform for PC audio.
We decided to make the software more widely available in the hope that other users would find it useful and that it might help to drive greater adoption of linux as a platform for serious audio production.
The significant costs of maintaining the infrastructure necessary to develop and distribute the software dictated that it had to exist as a commercial venture, although, where possible, we do support other projects as mentioned previously.
Product Delivery:
1) How are your products delivered?
You can download the software for free, but for products that require an activation key, you will have to purchase the key, and you will then be provided with a link to download the key from. This link is normally only valid for a limited number of downloads and / or a limited time. If you have trouble downloading or installing the activation key, please contact us and let us know.
