The Character of a Compressor
Many factors contribute to the character of a compressor including the side-chain processing, the topology, either feed-forward or feed-back and in many analogue units, the imperfections of the VCA circuitry. The linuxDSP Pro-Dynamics takes some of the more desirable aspects of classic analogue designs combined with high quality digital processing to produce a very natural sounding compressor that adds control without squashing the life out of a mix.

Soft Knee CompressionThe behaviour of a compressor at the threshold point has a significant effect on its sound and 'feel'. The Pro-Dynamics provides a smooth and gradual onset of compression at the threshold point, often referred to as 'Soft Knee' compression.

Gradual Overload
One of the more pleasing aspects of some analogue compressors is the ability to overload gradually when the output approaches the limits imposed by the design. The Pro-Dynamics emulates this by providing a controlled amount of soft clipping as the output signal reaches 0dBFS. The effect is similar to that of 'Tape Saturation' and avoids the sudden onset of harsh digital clipping, adding some analogue 'warmth' to the sound instead.
